Bruce and MaryAnn Marshall purchased John Stockhill Jewelers from Gary and Karen Morken on July 17th, 2015. Bruce and MaryAnn Marshall live in Gillette, Wyoming and also run another jewelry store Marshall Diamond Jewelry. Their daughter moved her family to Miles City, Montana to Manage the store. She has 12 yeas experiance in the jewelry field. We came to Miles City in hopes that we can work with the comunity and make it our own also.
As a child Bruce's dad Don would take him and his siblings up rock hunting for fun. He loved rocks of all shapes and sizes and wondered what they would be like in jewelry and polished up. In 1975 he went to Ricks Collage to a Gem Polishing and Jewelry making corse. He learned how to make cabashons. From there he went back in 1978 after his mission for the LDS church. He took the 2nd course for the Gem Polishing and Jewelry making. He worked for the summer for the US Geological Survey for Helena, Montana. While there they found a spot on the Missouri River to go dig sapphires. They found quite a bit of nice Sapphires and found someone to cut the Sapphires for them. Well Bruce was curious so they got permission to watch them cut the sapphires. Bruce thought I could do that so they sold the largest Sapphire they found and he bought some Lapidary equipment. When he graduated from Ricks Colloge he decided he would like to learn more about gems. So they moved to California to go to GIA. It took 6 months full time and Bruce became a Graduate Gemologist. They moved to Iowa for about 9 months and decided that was not the path they wanted. They moved back to Idaho and Bruce took a job for the summer working on a farm. So, Bruce took a job with the Marsdens after the summer job ended and moved to Paris, Texas to go to Goldsmithing School. They were there for a year and a half. He went back to Idaho and finally got on with the Marsden's working for them. He later went to Idaho Falls to work at a store they were just opening. He had been there for about 4 months and they asked Bruce to move to Gillette, Wyoming to be the assistant manager at their store Zane's Jewelers. So, they packed up again and moved to Gillette, Wyoming in January of 1987. In 1994 they started looking at Jewelry Stores to buy. In 1996 Zane's Jewelers decided they would sell the store to Bruce and MaryAnn January 3rd 1997. They named that store Marshall Diamond Jewelry. In December of 2001 they needed to move and upgrade the store as they had no parking. In 2002 they moved out to a strip center that you could see Walmart from. They continued to grow from year to year. In 2013 they remodled to make the store 3500 square feet. It is not the largest Jewelry store in Wyoming. He continues to work in Gillette and comes to Miles City, MT a couple days a week.
